Open Educational Resources

OER, Creative Commons, and Open Practices

Content & learning objectives

Open education refers to resources, tools, and practices for learning and teaching that seek to ‘open up’ education by enabling learners and teachers to work across boundaries of all kinds (e.g. classroom (physical or online), discipline, institution, sector, geography, and even legal and copyright restrictions).

Our brief lesson (click on the image opposite to access) defines OER, open licensing and Creative Commons, describes a variety of reasons why you might choose to use open practices in your own teaching, and gives some specific suggestions to help you further your own open practice.

Links to supplementary resources are included throughout the lesson so that you can explore further, if you wish.
